March 27th - 29th 2020
Hothorpe Hall, Leicestershire
The annual Advanced Course enables players to work on more difficult and unusual repertoire: consorts by Purcell and Lawes, the fabulous repertoire for two trebles and two basses by people like Jenkins and Simpson, and the fantastic later repertoire for three basses by Forqueray, Nicolai and others.
Players for these courses need to be experienced, technically competent, and not afraid of heights, clefs, or ormanents! If you're not sure whether this course is for you, have a look at our guidelines, or contact us.
The March 2020 course will focus on 17th Century French consort music, featuring composers including Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Henry Du Mont, Louis Couperin, and Jean Baptiste Antoine Forqueray.
The set repertoire is:
Du Mont - Symphonie VI
JBA Forqueray - La Tronchin (arr. S. Heinrich)
Charpentier - Preludes 1 and 2 from Concert pour 4 parties de violes
Other music will be studied during the weekend, including the remaining movements of the Charpentier.
