Upper Intermediate and Intermediate Course

The Upper Intermediate Course is designed to take players on from the level of the Intermediate Course. The music we cover will be more challenging both musically (rhythmically etc) and technically (e.g. in more adventurous keys!) Have a look at the Course Guidelines to see the difference. We will look together at the set repertoire and discuss options of bowing, fingering and ensemble issues. Further music will be provided, some in advance of the course so you can prepare it, and the rest during the week end. Courses begin with dinner and playing on Friday evening and end with lunch on Sunday.

The theme for the September 2018

course is Mirth and Melancholy:

lamentations, lachrimaes, misereres,

laudates, jubilates, and dances. Expect

plenty of melancholic Dowland, and

settings of Lamentations, and also

livelier dance pieces and settings of

Lauda Psalms. We hope to encourage a number of applications from players who also enjoy singing, so that some of the sessions can be for voices and viols.

Set Repertoire: This is music for you to look at in advance so you are not always sight-reading. We'll tell you nearer the time which part(s) to look at.

1) Dowland - Semper Dowland Semper Dolens

2) Byrd - Though Amaryllis Dance In Green, from Consorts for Five Book 3 published by Rondo Publishing. You can puchase a copy here

We can send you a pdf of this music before you apply if you contact us
