These courses are for anyone who is new to viol playing and wants to take the next step. There will be technique sessions, a few 'set pieces' to study together, and a friendly introduction to consort playing.
Here are some helpful guidelines about the level of an Elementary course:
- Relatively new players
- You do not need to have met all 6 strings of your viol, but could do with being able to play simple pieces in first position, rhythmically uncomplicated
- Basic fingering and bow hold in place
- Not required to hold a part on your own although could be encouraged to do so
Forthcoming dates - online and in-person
Friday May 28th - online, 5pm - 7pm
Join us via zoom for two sessions in this evening, one with a technical focus, and one where we put the technique into context in a piece of music.
The piece we'll be looking at is a 4-part in nomine by Taverner (everyone learning the treble part, no matter which size of viol you bring!). The technical session will focus on shifting between first and half position - how to shift, when to shift, when to move back, and how to decide!
The cost for the evening is £25 per person. If there are two people on your screen then the cost is £40 in total. The pitch is A=415
