Instruments for Sale

Anyone who has been on an RVA course can list instruments for sale on our site. We print people's own descriptions of them, not our own professional opinions as we have not always seen the instruments in question. We are very happy to offer advice to both sellers and prospective buyers. Rondo Viol Academy does not financially benefit from the sale of any of these instruments so any observations we might make are impartial.
Used Instruments
Renaissance bass viol copied from Gasparo. Made at West Dean in 1997 by Friederike Koellmutter with custom-made Kingham hard case.

This instrument is being sold by Lucinda who lives in Kent.
​She says:
​Lu Mi large treble after Hoskins which I bought from The Early Music Shop at Norvis in Durham in 2017. It has a Lu Mi hard case and a very good Landwehr consort bow. I had the treble professionally set up by my local luthier and it plays very well with a lovely sound. It is in near perfect condition and I have a full set of new spare strings for it. I would like to charge £3,200 for it but would consider a near offer.

Chinese 6 String Bass Viol with bow and hard case
String length 68.5
This viol has been completely overhauled by Merion Attwood and plays really easily. It has a new bridge, soundpost, nut, fret and reshaped, refinished fingerboard.  It has a bright tone and is even across the instrument. The bass notes ring out well.

​Chinese Treble Viol and bow in IKA case
New bridge and sound post by Merion Attwood. New frets, new wound strings on 5 and 6.
String length 37.5cms
This overall tone of this viol is quite bright. It is easy to play and has a low stopping distance on the fingerboard.  The case has a small mark on the front, otherwise it is perfect.
